The increased use of Wi-Fi in the work environment is making it easier for firms to plan the layout of their offices.

A spokesman for the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) noted that using the internet is an ideal way for small companies to diversify and find different markets, reports Eclipse Internet.

Marc Shoffman said that businesses can now set out their workspaces more efficiently as it is "easier to layout an office without the need for plugs and wires".

He added that there may be certain issues companies should keep in mind when allowing employees to use Wi-Fi.

Mr Schoffman said it may cost a little more for equipment, training and technology. He added that firms would also have to have some system in place to make certain staff are keeping up with their work.

In related news, since 2006 there has been a 90 per cent rise in the number of flexible working requests that have been approved, according to a survey by the Confederation of British Industry.
