Yahoo! to enter social network advertising

Internet search engine Yahoo! has announced an advertising deal with social networking site Bebo for its UK and Ireland services.
The agreement will allow Yahoo! to sell the majority of the advertising space on the site, covering display and video marketing, according to Reuters.
It allows Yahoo! to access some 11 million UK users as it tries to regain market share from industry leader Google. The two groups said advertisers would benefit from the combination of Bebo's highly engaged audience with Yahoo!'s insight and ability to target consumers.
Toby Coppel, managing director of Yahoo! Europe, told the news agency: "We think this is a groundbreaking move in the online advertising industry in the UK and Ireland. It's a core step for us in building up the largest and most effective advertising network. It's a big deal."
Figures released last month by internet analysts comScore found that Bebo was the most popular social network site in the UK, with 10.6 million unique users visiting the site in July.
