Community nurses will be provided with sturdy laptops with wireless technology, as part of a new service from broadband provider BT, it has been announced.
The scheme, Mobile Health Worker, will be rolled out to community nurses in north Lincolnshire with laptops linked to the system in order to allow instant access to patient records and support systems using remote access technology.
Chief executive of BT Health Stuart Hill explained that the demand for this level of service, which could transform the health service using technology previously used in broadband use, was now greater as the price of mobility services has been reduced.
Mr Hill said: "Mobile technology has developed dramatically in recent years - bringing significant efficiencies and radical changes to the way we live our lives."
Meanwhile, BT is also encouraging the use of broadband technology within communities through its
Community Connectors scheme, where volunteers help others to get online and enjoy the benefits of broadband access.

Speeds in excess of 2 meg are only available in certain areas. Top
speeds vary significantly, particularly according to how far away
you live from the exchange.
If your line won’t support our fastest broadband speed we’ll
give you the best available. The speed you actually get can also vary
depending on the quality of your line, the wiring in your house, the
time of day and even the weather.
