BT delivers 40Mb broadband to Bristol

Broadband speeds in Bristol are set to increase by five times with the introduction of fibre-optic cables to the city.
BT has provided residents in Downend access to 40Mb/s broadband as opposed to their previous 8Mb capability, which means, among other things, they can download full movies in about ten minutes.
It also allows people to download songs in seconds and watch high-definition TV on one computer while someone else is downloading films and games on another.
Jon Reynolds, south-west regional director for the company, believes it will provide internet users with a unique experience.
"The arrival of fibre-based broadband will support local jobs and the local economy and is a vital part of our plans for the south-west," he said. "As our roll-out of super-fast broadband gathers pace, many more customers in other parts of the region can look forward to faster speeds."
This is the first step in BT's £2.5 billion plan to supply next generation broadband to the whole country, following the announcement at a conference in Somerset.
At the moment 15,000 homes in Downend have got improved broadband and in the next few months, 50,000 more homes and businesses will have access to the next-generation service when it stretches to northern and western areas of Bristol.
BT is currently offering three months free on all of its packages, starting from £7.49 a month, with a home hub, security system and unlimited weekend or anytime calls to UK landlines.
Let's hope this super-fast broadband lives up to its name so everyone can get their hands on it soon!
