BT hits broadband milestone

.More than 15 million homes and small businesses in the UK have signed up to BT's broadband services, according to figures released by the company.
It has said that it reached the milestone in the past two weeks.
Now more than five million connections have been made through BT retail, with the rest through other companies.
In total, including broadband users with Virgin Media, there are 19 million homes in the UK with broadband connections.
There have been on average 5,000 new broadband connections made every day since August 2002.
BT claim that means that the UK has surpassed other nations in Europe such as Italy, France and Germany when it comes to broadband uptake.
Commenting on the new data, BT's strategy director Olivia Garfield said: "Broadband Britain has been a success story with widespread availability, low prices and high take up.
"People were sceptical when BT backed broadband in 2002 but the figures speak for themselves with the vast majority of new customers choosing broadband over BT's network rather than alternative ones where prices are far higher."
The company also highlighted the importance of the UK's competitive market, where it commands just over a quarter (27 per cent) market share.
Last week, the telecoms giant announced that it would be investing a further £2.5 billion in bringing higher-speed fibre broadband to 66 per cent of the UK.
