BT makes its home hub more secure
Broadband service provider BT has announced it is disabling a function on its Home Hub in order to make it more secure.
The Remote Assistance feature on the Home Hub will be deactivated so that the hub, which is part of BT's Total Broadband package, will remain secure against future internet threats.
Customers have been reassured that the deactivation of this equipment does not impair any of the broadband services or other PC-based remote actions. The feature will still be seen by customers but BT has said that trying to enable the feature will show an error message.
A statement from BT said: "Future versions of the hub firmware will completely remove this feature from the hub manager."
According to figures from ISPreview.co.uk, BT is the largest broadband provider in the UK, with four million customers across the country.
