BT Vision 'looking towards the future'

Thursday 19th November 2009, by Daniel King

Consumers who subscribe to BT Vision alongside the telecommunication and internet service provider's broadband services may see the product improve in the future, if a spokesman for the group is to be believed.

In an interview with industry publication Broadcast this week, chief executive Marc Watson outlined some of his plans for the set-top box and noted that there are significant challenges in a market populated by other big players like Virgin Media and Sky.

The publication explained that BT Vision has been struggling of late and a "glaring shortfall in the user numbers" is something that will need to be addressed if it wants to keep on top of its game.

However, it added this is something that the company representative suggested he has things in place to help fix this.

"We have around 12 million telephony customers and four million broadband customers. That's a great base," Mr Watson noted, adding these consumers can expect "access to what they want, whenever they want, with better pricing and content presented in new ways and supported by new levels of interactivity".

One area the spokesman also drew attention to was the need for more premium sports services like the Barclays Premier League, which is something that may be a possibility further down the line.

However, although he noted that moves were being made to even the playing field between BT and its rivals, the fact remains that the Vision service "is a great product" for those not concerned with sport.

The telecommunications company published a study this week that showed the financial services sector was opting for innovative ways to use broadband and other services to boost business.
