BT has confirmed that its number of Wi-Fi hotspots has exceeded 3.5 million throughout Britain and Ireland.
These are free to access for the broadband provider's subscribers, who can now use the connections to use the internet on devices such as laptops and media tablets.
This latest increase means that BT's Total Broadband customers can use one of the world's largest Wi-Fi networks, with connections spread throughout the UK.
In total, there are 380,000 hotspots in London, while 25,000 are situated in Birmingham and Leeds.
Manchester subscribers can benefit from 20,000 hotspots, which is the same number as are available in Edinburgh and Sheffield, while there are 11,000 in Liverpool, Brighton, Bristol and Cardiff.
The connections can be found in a number of different locations, with many brands offering them in their properties.
Among these are Hilton, Thistle, Ramada Jarvis, Starbucks and Welcome Break. Train commuters can also benefit from the connections, as they can be accessed at Network Rail stations around Britain.
BT home broadband customers can also use the provider's new network on their Blackberry or Android devices, thanks to the BT FON app.
John Petter, managing director, consumer, at BT, stated that the network will bring BT broadband to millions of customers.
Mr Petter also commented on the company's new app, explaining: "Our free apps for the Apple, Android and now Blackberry devices make getting online even easier and have already proved a huge hit with over 900,000 downloads."
News of BT's new Wi-Fi milestone comes after the company announced an agreement with Sainsbury's that will see 1,000 of the supermarket's stores and depots gain enhanced network capacity.
As part of the deal, BT is deploying a combination of products, such as Ethernet and advanced copper broadband, which will help to increase the speed of the business' customer transactions.
