BT Wifi improves courthouse

BT Wifi improves courthouse Basildon Crown Court has announced that it will be providing wireless broadband facilities to workers, jurors and visitors, reports the Essex Echo.

It has been revealed that Basildon has become one of 67 UK courts to take advantage of broadband technology, which has been provided by BT Openzone.

Courts minister Maria Eagle explained: "For jurors, victims and witnesses, the availability of high-speed broadband internet will mean ready access to work, business and leisure pursuits in between hearings."

She added that it would also allow journalists to file copy while on site during major trials, as well as using broadband to help barristers and solicitors utilise their time.
Earlier in the year, BT announced it had been working with Schlumberger to launch the first ever public wireless broadband service for offshore workers at the Byford Dolphin rig in the North Sea.

The new service also highlights the importance of wireless broadband today, as it allows over 100 workers to use wirelessly enabled laptops and PDAs through the BT Openzone hotspot scheme.
