Fibre optic broadband to bring fast speeds to Stamford

Around 11,000 homes and businesses in Stamford will benefit from superfast broadband in the coming months after BT started installation work in Stamford.
It is upgrading the current offering to bring download speeds of 100Mbps, with the work being carried out ahead of schedule, according to the Stamford Mercury.
BT was due to start the work early next year, however it has already installed cabinets to house fibre optic cables in Station Road, Ryhall Road, Lady Romayne Close, Warrenne Keep and All Saints' Place.
Paul Bimson, regional partnership director for BT in the East Midlands, explained that the new technology will be a "huge boost" for homes and businesses in the region, adding that it will "transform their experience of the internet".
"They’re joining the more than five million UK premises now served by what we believe to be the world’s fastest growing fibre network," Mr Bimson noted.
The source noted that it is not just people who are signed up to BT Openreach that will be able to access the superfast broadband as the company also supplies internet for other providers around the country.
It was also reported that Rutland County Council's Digital Rutland scheme has been welcomed by BT. The initiative has been chosen to promote internet projects in the countryside and the county council has received £710,000 to help it go about installing superfast broadband.
News of the broadband installation in Stamford comes at a time when BT has recently announced it is creating 300 permanent customer advisor positions in the Midlands.
The jobs will help the company improve its customer service and will be based at its flagship Providence Place in West Bromwich.
Ian Livingstone, BT's chief executive, said: "We all know how difficult the job market is, so the fact BT is bringing more than 300 further roles to the area is great news."
