A new partnership has been announced by O2 and BT Openzone that it is claimed will offer more wireless options to internet users.
The deal will see the latter company allow users of the former network access to a number of Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK for the first time and will be launched to coincide with a new software release.
O2 explained that the upgrades it has made to the Mobile Broadband Connection Manager system will provide fast and smooth access to its services and includes a host of useful changes.
Automatically copying existing profiles from between laptops and computers, it also claimed the initial installation process should "seamlessly connect users to their home or business broadband wireless networks, without the need to manually enter security codes".
In addition, O2 said that by providing access to BT Openzone's 3,000 Wi-Fi hotspots - which include branches of the Starbucks coffee house chain - will build on the its current unlimited data tariffs.
Jonathan Earle, head of pay monthly at the group, said the idea behind the move was to maximise the amount of options its mobile broadband customers have by introducing more value-added services.
"Expanding our Unlimited Wi-Fi proposition by introducing BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots allowing our customers to stay connected to the people and things that matter to them most," he noted.
He went on to say that by including a data counter in the new software users would also be offered more control.
Earlier this month the network became the exclusive UK carrier of the Apple iPhone 3G S.
