Post Office and BT team up for broadband service

(Friday, 25th May 2007)

The Post Office has announced that it will offer a broadband connection with BT Wholesale.

In a £750 million deal with the broadband provider, the Post Office hopes to offer high speed internet connections by the autumn as part of a four-year agreement.

Paul Reynolds, chief executive at BT Wholesale, described the deal as a "landmark agreement", adding that the move should help establish the Post Office as a "key player" within the competitive broadband market.

Meanwhile, a Post Office spokesman told Computing: "We are determined to develop new revenue from new services and we are confident of a significant amount of new business that will help support the branch network and help it become sustainable in the long-term."

The publication states that the firm is perhaps hoping to reinvent itself as the internet had been integral to its decline over recent years, with many people choosing to complete tasks online which they once would have conducted at the Post Office in person.
