BT honours web-based home businesses

BT has singled out one North Yorkshire mum for special praise as it has emerged she has made the most of her broadband connection to set up a successful enterprise from home.

The news could inspire those with home web connections that are looking to increase their income and may have a good idea or business plan that they are hoping to put into action.

Helen Johnson has been shortlisted by the telecommunications service provider for the BT Home Business Award for her entrepreneurial skills in setting up postapresent.co.uk.

From her home in Selby, North Yorkshire, Ms Johnson not only sells affordable gifts online through a web-based retail outlet, she also incorporates a wrapping and greeting card offering into the package, as well as a service where they can be sent directly to the intended recipient.

The site and its owner have been selected for the Remote Worker category of the BT Home Business Awards and the company explained that if selected, the accolade could be very good for business.

"I am so excited to be shortlisted! It's made all my hard work over the past 18 months worthwhile and it's nice to be recognised," Ms Johnson commented.

The winner of the event will be rewarded with a host of prizes to improve their business and could even scoop a penthouse eco garden office as part of the Vivid Green Award for the most environmentally-friendly start up.

Last week, BT Business entered an agreement with Google to provide small firms with digital marketing services and become an authorised reseller of the search group's AdWords option.
