Business broadband 'crucial to EU's digital economy'

Monday 20th June 2011, by Daniel King

Business broadband could be the next driver to tackling youth unemployment, one commentator has said, as access to the internet becomes more crucial across the European digital economy.

Writing on PublicService.co.uk, director general of DigitalEurope Bridget Cosgrave said business broadband is instrumental in exploiting the full value of online partnerships and access to global markets.

As well as providing a platform for modernisation of government services, increased broadband access will encourage investment and allow businesses to grow more quickly.

"Increasing broadband access will allow young people to engage in entrepreneurial activity more easily and have access to online training to increase their skills base to have the right profile for job openings," said Mrs Cosgrave.

The European Digital Agenda Assembly recently took place in Brussels, and provided an insight into how Europe's politicians see the future of the internet.
