Businesses urged to beef up internet security

Businesses urged to beef up internet security Business broadband customers are being warned to protect themselves from malicious attacks on their websites.

New research from ScanSafe has shown that threats to legitimate websites climbed by 278 per cent during the first half of the year.

In June, two-thirds of the websites that blocked malware thanks to security software belonged to businesses. Backdoor Trojans and password stealers were the most commonly blocked malware.

"The mass compromise of websites poses particular challenge to corporate users," said Mary Landesman, senior security researcher at ScanSafe.

Moreover, businesses that are unsuccessful in resisting attacks have an impact on home broadband users who visit the affected sites.

"These are sites that users visit frequently and the attacks are so stealthy and unobtrusive, that most visitors don't know that they've been infected," she added.

According to Web-User magazine, malicious code is the single biggest security concern for most broadband users and companies.
