Internet crackdown in China

Businesses which are considering using broadband to reach customers in China may be interested in a report that the Chinese government is to crack down further on sites accessible in internet cafes.
There have been reports that "Operation For Tomorrow" will focus on unlicensed internet cafes, which could mean certain online games are banned, as well as greater checks on sites from charities and non-government organisations.
It was also reported in the Guardian that the number of internet users in China is about to overtake the USA, as 200,000 Chinese consumers gain access to the web every day, which may have prompted the government action.
The Wall Street Journal online blog has suggested ways that business broadband users could tailor their business for the Chinese market.
It reports findings from a Symantec survey which showed that 78 per cent of internet users in China use social-networking sites, compared to 47 per cent of Americans, which could indicate consumers are more likely to embrace new technology.
