Microsoft says thank you to Bing users

Tuesday 14th July 2009, by Daniel King

Microsoft has taken the opportunity to thank everyone that has been using its online search engine and lifestyle portal - one month after the service was launched.

Taking over from the company's Windows Live Search page, Bing was offered up to broadband users on June 3rd as an alternative to the likes of Google, Ask and Cuil.

It has now been announced that the resource is doing well and Microsoft claims to have received a wealth of good feedback as well as some opinions about how it could be improved.

The firm identifies four "key audiences" that it has endeavoured to tailor its service towards – consumers, advertisers, webmasters and developers, noting that Bing has been able to reach "important milestones with each group".

In terms of consumers, it was explained that eight per cent growth in unique visitors last month was a good sign and the doubling of the amount of polled users who would recommend Bing to others was also positive.

"This is an important metric to us because we think it speaks to Bing's ability to meet your needs, be they for general purpose searching or for searches to help you make smarter decisions in one or more of our four focus areas of shopping, travel, health and local," Microsoft said.

Adgooroo.com reported this week that its Q209 Search Advertising Report showed that the company had succeeded in creating a "decision engine" and - following a $100 million (£61.3 million) launch - the page was performing exceptionally well, particularly for such a new site.
