More and more people in the UK are choosing to purchase mobile broadband technology, industry experts have revealed.

According to GfK, the high cost of mobile broadband systems has inhibited the growth of the market in recent years.

However, the firm believes that falling prices have helped it to overcome this problem and open it up to a wider group of people.

Chantal Brel, senior account manager at GfK, commented: "Operators' mobile broadband offers have become a lot more comprehensive and affordable for the general public."

She added that while sales of laptops with integrated 3G technology are still relatively low, there is strong potential for this market to grow considerably in the future.

Meanwhile, T-Mobile has stated that it is expecting to see a four-fold increase in the number of mobile broadband users this year.

Jim Hyde, chief executive of the organisation, said the growing popularity of the technology shows that it has now "come of age".
