Updating websites 'is a financial investment'

Wednesday 26th March 2008, by Daniel King

Business broadband users should keep their company websites in order, according to the British Computer Society (BCS).

Howard Gerlis, chairman of the BCS Internet Specialist Group and a fellow at the company, has spoken about the issue, saying many small businesses allow their websites to deteriorate after the initial excitement of their development.

Mr Gerlis explained: "[Businesses should] always consider how they are going to have repeat viewings of the site, something to keep the customer coming back for more."

He argues that keeping websites updated is worth the financial investment, as websites can be used to bring in extra business, heighten awareness and combat online competition.

It was revealed in research by Netflare that 23 per cent of small businesses did not manage to update their website after launching it, which could mean they are not making the most of their business broadband connection.
