Brits 'dependent on broadband' working from home
Thursday 23rd December 2010, by Daniel King
British people are becoming more reliant on their home broadband when it comes to work.
Some 60 per cent of people surveyed will be using their connection to work on Christmas Day, with some spending up to ten hours working during their leave, Demon Internet has found.
Around four per cent admitted that they would be logging in for over eight hours every time, with around 40 per cent in total admitting they were doing this because they had a home connection.
However, all the people surveyed who planned to work at home said they would be conducting regular office business, with more than nine in ten (95 per cent) expecting to communicate with colleagues over work email.
In addition, some 68 per cent said that they would be accessing files and documents from their work on a remote connection, with 30 per cent using cloud applications.
Commenting on the survey findings, Demon’s head Matt Cantwell said: "As a nation we're no longer restricted by set working hours and are often the most productive when working whenever and wherever suits us best."
The findings follow a report by CSC which focused on how the cloud can be made more secure for both public and private sector workers – potentially making working from home feasible for a huge number of workers.
