Demon launches 'gamers broadband package'
Monday 23rd August 2010, by Daniel King
Demon Internet has become the first broadband provider to launch a dedicated package for gaming enthusiasts.
According to the firm, the new package will prioritise the multiplayer experience and be targeted at keen gamers who may have been frustrated by other services.
Writing on Demon's blog, company head Matt Cantwell said: "We know how important a good broadband connection is to the gaming community, and we are excited to be launching this product which has been designed to meet the specific needs of gamers.
"At Demon we appreciate that a better connection allows better gaming, and are confident that gamers will see the benefits that this service offers."
Some of the features of the £21.99 monthly package will include speeds of up to 20Mb downstream and 1Mb upstream, traffic prioritisation and a free static IP address.
In addition, subscribers will also benefit from a UK-based in house technical support team.
The decision to launch the product follows the recent debate about net neutrality which saw Google and Verizon indicate that certain kinds of traffic such as gaming should have higher priority than text traffic.
Last week, the two giants, said they were close to finalising a deal to support Verizon speed online content to internet users more quickly, if the companies behind the content were willing to pay.
However, the proposals have been roundly criticised due to fears that they will compromise net neutrality and fair access to content for all users.
