Eclipse Internet: Superfast broadband will benefit businesses too

Wednesday 24th March 2010, by Daniel King

Ubiquitous superfast broadband could have a big effect on the economy as a whole, not just homeowners, Eclipse Internet has said.

I'm sure you've heard about it before now, but prime minister Gordon Brown recently declared that every house in the country will get high-speed broadband from his Labour government - calling it the "electricity of the digital age".

"Britain's digital future must be a future for all, not just for some," he stated.

And since then I've seen rafts of comments about how great this will be for Brits, which it obviously will be.

However, no one has really mentioned the advantages this will bring to businesses - especially odd given that we just went through that little recession thingy and are still trying to heave our way out of it.

Apart from Eclipse Internet, which is dedicated to supporting the technological needs of the UK's small to medium-sized enterprises.

The firm's proposition manager Paul Richens commented: "We shouldn't forget the possibilities this opens up for businesses."

"Faster broadband will allow companies to access a whole new range of online services and applications that the average UK business simply doesn't have the bandwidth for yet."

It's not just about reducing call costs or making it easier for employees to work from home, Mr Richens explained.

In addition, he went on to say the government is right to want to bring about change, as every area of Britain does indeed deserve the same right and level of internet access.

What do you think about Gordon Brown's plans?
