Businesses would benefit from internet usage policy, says expert

Firms need to establish a "very definite" policy about what their employees are and are not allowed to do on the internet during work hours, one expert has said.
Ben Camm-Jones, news editor of Web-User magazine, said a clear set of guidelines is useful should a dispute occur over internet usage.
He also said that bosses are anxious about staff accessing the internet as they fear they may be wasting their time or leaving their computers vulnerable to attack.
From a security point of view, managers are often concerned about the sites that people visit, Mr Camm-Jones stated.
He added: "It is something that every IT manager is concerned about but most of the problems can be circumvented with a very clearly established IT policy."
Research by MessageLabs showed that there were 2,076 new malicious websites blocked every day last month, which is a rise of 58 per cent on the previous month and the highest number since April 2007.
