Early launch of UK Council for Child Internet Safety
Friday 16th May 2008, by Daniel King
Parents concerned about allowing their children to use broadband alone may be interested to know about the announced launch of the UK Council for Child Internet Safety.
The body is set to start work in September this year, explained information website Parents Lounge, when it will commence work on a strategy to make the internet safer for children.
Minister for children and young people Kevin Brennan explained: "All children deserve to take advantage of opportunities new technologies bring but parents have told us that they want support from the government to help make sure these opportunities are beneficial to their children's development without causing harm."
Stakeholders are currently being asked to join the council, which will include industry experts and children's charities, who will work towards the first Child Internet Safety Summit in spring 2009.
Meanwhile, both parents and young people can find advice on making the most of their broadband connection on government website thinkuknow.co.uk.
