European Safer Internet Day raises awareness
Wednesday 13th February 2008, by Daniel King
The importance of internet education has been highlighted by the European Safer Internet Day, which was held on February 12th.
Parents and children are being encouraged to become more aware of risks associated with online use, and the steps which can be taken by broadband consumers to reduce the risk to younger surfers.
Organisations in the UK are joining forces with the Information Security Awareness Forum, which is being developed to promote online security education.
Chair of the forum Dr David King said: "There are a lot of messages coming out from lots of different places but the question is who do you listen to?"
Broadband users who are looking for features such as parental control in their supplier services may be interested in some of the information given out as part of the day.
Insafe, which co-ordinated the day's events, offers advice on issues such as cyberbullying and identity theft.
