Internet security 'has adapted'
Friday 22nd February 2008, by Daniel King
Broadband users who protect their computers with internet security are now offered a service which is proactive, according to McAfee.
Security analyst Greg Day explained that in the earlier days of the internet, security companies reacted to viruses as they appeared but now daily updates are capable of identifying threats before they appear.
Mr Day said: "If we can detect and understand the tool used to conceal the attack, we can then see it in its true guise, much like a person wearing a person wearing a disguise."
Updated broadband security packages can detect by family, by behaviour and by disguise, with increased detection processes and releases every day.
It has been reported by the BBC that there may have been up to five times as many variants of malicious programs on the internet in 2007, compared to the previous year.
Panda Software, a security company, has announced that it now sees approximately 3,000 new samples of malware.
