Malware a 'worry' for internet users

Malware is currently the biggest concern for broadband users, according to an internet expert.
Web-User magazine's Ben Camm-Jones said that where hackers previously created malicious websites to track people on the internet or sent emails with bogus links, they are now hacking into legitimate websites, making it harder for the average user to know which sites to trust.
He explained that users are at risk from malware even if they are only returning to their favourite websites, as there is no simple way of knowing whether they have been attacked.
"It's definitely something that the average user has to be concerned about," said Mr Camm-Jones.
MessageLabs research showed that over 2,000 new malicious websites were blocked every day in June, up 58 per cent from May and the highest number since April 2007.
Mr Camm-Jones advised website owners and administrators to keep their security up to date in order to protect broadband users.
A recent McAfee experiment found that people who surf the web without any security protection receive an average of 70 spam emails per day.
