N Irish ISP launches new email service
Friday 30th November 2007, by Daniel King
An internet service provider (ISP) based in Belfast has launched what it calls "a new breed of email service".
UTV Internet has teamed up with Brandmail Solutions to provide an email client that clearly identifies genuine messages by displaying the sender's brand logo in the 'from' box when looking at a list of new emails.
A number of companies have signed up to have their logos displayed in this way, including airline Aer Lingus and bank Permanent TSB.
The client is set to be rolled out among more ISPs based in Northern Ireland in the future.
"Everybody knows that cybercrime and email spoofing is on the rise," commented Jeremy Biggerstaff, managing director of UTV New Media.
"But very few can tell you how to tell from the contents of an email if it is genuine or spoofed.
The announcement comes shortly after Pascal Manzano of computing security organisation Enisa told delegates at the recent Inbox Outbox London event that ISPs are increasingly focusing on improving email security for users, vnunet.com reports.
