PC users urged to be more security savvy

Computer users should be more aware of the types of malicious software that could attack their PCs, according to the news editor of Web-User magazine.
Ben Camm-Jones said that users must have up-to-date security software installed on their PC, and should always pay attention to the emails and attachments that they choose to open.
MessageLabs research shows the global proportion of spam in email traffic from new or previously unknown sources stood at 76.5 per cent last month, which is the equivalent of one spam message in every 1.31 emails.
Broadband users ought to be aware that there are several different types of attack and should be making a concerted effort to stop this, remarked Mr Camm-Jones.
"It's all very well having something installed but what you need is to get the regular updates and that either means getting something that is updated for free or keeping up your subscription," he added.
A recent experiment by McAfee found that anyone who uses the internet without any security protection will receive an average of 70 spam emails a day.
