Orange rapped over broadband ad claims

A new promotional campaign for Orange's broadband service has landed the provider in trouble with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
The regulator decided that, in a recent newspaper advert, Orange misled consumers by comparing its Home Max service to BT's broadband offerings and claiming that it was possible to "save over £190 when you switch from BT".
According to the ASA, Orange's calculation failed to consider a number of additional features included in the BT service, such as free Wi-Fi minutes, Norton AntiVirus software and a free cordless phone.

Orange launches safety online programme

Broadband provider Orange has announced the launch of a programme to increase safety for young people online.
The Safety Online scheme provides materials for teachers to teach children about how to take advantages of broadband and the internet, in a safe but fun way.
Part of the campaign involves film clips, which raise issues such as sharing information on social networking sites and posting personal experiences online, which they may later regret.

Orange broadband literary shortlist announced

Orange broadband customers may be interested in the support their provider is giving to the literary scene, as the shortlist for the Orange Broadband Award for New Writers is announced.
The prize, a £10,000 bursary, will be given to any female writer whose first work of fiction has been published in the UK within the past year.
Shortlisted writers for 2008, chosen for their potential, are Lauren Groff for The Monsters of Templeton, Joanna Kavenna for Inglorious and Lauren Liebenberg, who wrote The Voluptuous Delights of Peanut Butter and Jam.
