Broadband users 'may be better equipped for employment'

Broadband users may be better equipped to find employment than those who do not have access to a web connection, if the results of a new survey are anything to go by.

Conducted by online jobs portal Caterer.com, the research focused on the opinions of hospitality, human resources and recruitment managers - and revealed that 53 per cent of them think the internet is the most effective way of getting staff.

Specialist boards with details of the latest vacancies and candidates were found to be considered the very best way of gaining employment, according to 29 per cent of respondents and 14 per cent said they relied on employer websites.

Word of mouth was said to be an effective tool by 13 per cent of those surveyed and ten per cent added they would look to specialist recruitment consultants. Print advertising and general websites made up the rest of the figure with nine per cent of the vote each.

Commenting, marketing manager Jonathan Hedger said: "We are increasingly seeing companies in the hospitality industry adopt the internet as their key source of recruitment." He added the research shows recruiters value the quality and cost-savings the web provides when looking to fill positions.

Those currently looking for work may appreciate the latest announcement from Orange which detailed a number of new mobile broadband tariffs. One of these provides customers with an allowance of 500 Mb, download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps and a free Huawei E160e dongle/memory stick for £4.89 per month.
