Home is where the broadband is

Home is where the broadband is Surfing the web has overtaken watching television as an Orange survey shows that 60 per cent of households spend more time on the internet than watching television.

The research, part of the Orange Home Report, also indicates that 74 per cent of those asked considered the freedom to surf the web as their most important comfort factor.

When asked about what makes a dream home, internet access came top, followed by clean sheets, a warm bath and a fully-stocked fridge.

Director of Orange home propositions Asif Aziz said: "Alongside developments in technology, there is no denying that what we want from our homes has evolved over the past few years."

The research also showed that that broadband in the home had become more important as the proportion of British adults working from home tripled since 2002.

A report from Ofcom in December suggested that those living in the UK have the cheapest broadband in Europe.
