New Orange broadband packaged 'targets employees'

Wednesday 8th April 2009, by Daniel King

Orange has announced details of a new business-focussed broadband package that it hopes will provide smaller firms an opportunity to avoid hidden costs.

The network explained that its new tariff - which is priced at £4.25 per month and has a 500MB data allowance - responds to recent research suggesting there was a need for greater flexibility in many workplaces.

It was noted that a study commissioned by Orange and conducted by YouGov found around 77 per cent of employees jumping online using their computer, laptop or mobile phone during the gaps they have in their working day.

By providing this new offering, the company said it hopes small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in particular will be able to provide staff with enough data allowance to take care of their daily tasks, while allowing them the space to get on the web for their own needs – "without incurring any nasty hidden costs".

Orange spokesman Martin Lyne said that in the current economic state, SMEs were just one of a number of groups looking to cut costs and give employees the break they so often need.

"We know everybody’s working hard so there’s enough capacity in our new data bundle to combine work with some fun such as social networking and entertainment that doesn’t penalise either staff or the bill payer," he added.

Orange recently announced the launch of a new Sales Academy- to be led by its vice-president Jean-Pascal Van Overbeke - which aims to nurture talent and provide improved customer satisfaction.
