Orange adds to mobile broadband range

Orange signed a deal with computer manufacturer Hewlett Packard (HP) as part of a drive to improve its services to mobile broadband customers.

The three-year partnership will see the two companies working together to increase the uptake of mobile connections across Europe by distributing internet-ready laptops.

Among the new machines on offer is the new Compaq Mini 700, with customers receiving the laptop free when they sign up to Orange's £30-a-month, two-year contract.

The package will also include access to the provider's Internet Everywhere mobile broadband service and dongle, as well as a 3GB data allowance.

Orange's decision to add to its mobile broadband portfolio is part of its aim to bring "seamless, simple and affordable access" to customers everywhere.

Olaf Swantee, senior executive vice-president at the firm, said: "Adding a select range of HP Notebooks and Minis to our successful portfolio of connected offers is just the kick-off phase."

He added that the companies would also be working together to define new services for those looking to access the internet on the move.

HP senior vice-president Eric Cador added: "Our vision is to make mobile Internet simple and always available for people wherever they are, giving customers an even better mobile experience by leveraging Orange's and HP's unique experience and knowledge."

The move comes shortly after fellow provider O2 announced its first entry into the laptop market after teaming up with technology firm Samsung.

Customers can sign up to a number of bundle packages, which include Samsung's NC10 mini-laptop and R510 laptop models, as well as mobile broadband access.
