Orange customers 'to benefit from cheap mobile broadband abroad'

Wednesday 17th February 2010, by Daniel King

Orange mobile broadband customers who wish to use their handset to access the internet overseas can now benefit from a brand new offer.

The telecommunications firm is offering its users two megabytes of mobile broadband allowance at a cost of €2 (£1.74), reports moneysupermarket.com.

Such a price is more than five times cheaper than some of Orange's main mobile broadband rivals - indicating Orange customers could be getting the best deal when logging into Facebook or catching up with the news from the side of the pool this summer.

Mike Wilson, mobile and broadband manager at the price comparison site, said: "Using the internet on your mobile in Europe can cost up to £5 per megabyte so the offer of two megabytes for €2 is a good deal. Two megabytes is enough to keep up with Twitter, check your emails and do some browsing, but you will need to avoid any downloading or streaming."

In contrast to Orange's deal, Virgin customers are charged £5 per megabyte of usage - equalling £10 for two megabytes, £8.26 more expensive than those with Orange.

Other providers are only marginally cheaper - O2, for example, charges its users £3 per megabyte of bandwidth when accessing mobile broadband connections from abroad.

Some of the more affordable deals on offer come from 3 and Vodafone - with the former pricing each megabyte at £1.25 and the latter charging £4.99 for up to 25 megabytes, the website explained.

Last November Orange came out on top of a YouGov Dongle Tracker survey, which suggested that the firm was the best in the UK at providing mobile broadband connections and deals.
