Orange offers broadband customers free online protection
Tuesday 18th October 2011, by Simon White
Orange is the first home broadband provider to offer all of its consumers anti-virus and parental control software free-of-charge.
All of the company's customers will eligible to receive 12 months McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2012+Parental Controls software, which is ordinarily priced at £49.99.
Using the new software, people can ensure that up to three of their PCs are secure, while the new parental controls enable parents to monitor the online habits of their children with more ease.
For example, mothers and fathers can set child-specific settings for web pages, filter selected chat rooms and arrange time limits for their childrens' use of the internet.
These perks will be supplied free of charge to customers for their first year with the company. Once these initial 12 months have passed, they can then opt to cancel the service or utilise it for half price during their second year of membership.
Thanks to McAfee and Orange's partnership, customers are adequately protected against malicious software, while unsolicited pop-up advertisements will be eliminated from their web browsing activities.
Commenting on the offer, Sylvain Thevenot, marketing director of Orange Home, said: "We believe that our customers need a complete online security solution that is simple to install and understand, so they can use it both when they’re in the home and when they're on the move with their laptops.
"As a result, we're pleased to be the first home broadband provider to offer all of our customers, irrespective of their package, access to award-winning protection software for free."
News of Orange and McAfee's new offer has emerged shortly after BT announced that it is increasing the capacity of the NHS' N3 internet gateway by double.
During the spring, the gateway was widened from 1.82Gbps to 3Gbps, though this most recent upgrade sees it reach 5Gbps.
