Orange 'to close dial-up service'
Thursday 13th September 2007, by Daniel King
Internet and mobile phone network Orange is to close down one of its dial-up services due to the domination of the broadband sector.
Customers on the Any Time package, which has no time restrictions, have been issued with a letter warning them of the closure of the service, ISPreview.co.uk reports.
The service is set to close in December, leaving Orange customers with one dial-up package or a broadband starter service, which the company is offering at £11.99 per month, £3 cheaper than the Any Time dial-up package.
Orange said in a statement to the news provider: "Orange has decided to close the Any Time Dial-up service at the end of this year. This is because we believe that broadband provides our customers with more benefits and greater value for money than Any Time Dial-up."
The eight MB broadband service Orange provides is currently being offered at half price, in an effort to increase its position from the fifth largest UK ISP.
