Pipex and Tiscali 'could broker deal'
Thursday 14th June 2007, by Daniel King
Pipex may be planning to break up its company and sell its residential broadband consumer base to Tiscali, it has been claimed.
According to the Register, details of such a move could be announced within the next four to six weeks, while decisions over where employees will go have already been made.
Such a move may allow Pipex access to Tiscali's local loop unbundled network, which is about four times the size of Pipex's own.
Jonathan Coham, a broadband analyst at Ovum, told the Register: "This is an interesting move, but Tiscali needs more than just subscribers to maintain its position."
He added that traditionally, the broadband firm has spent little and would need to work on this image.
Following on from its free broadband deal last month, Pipex recently announced it would also offer consumer free phone calls as part of its Hometime package, which costs £10.99 a month.
