Pipex in Nokia wireless broadband deal

Pipex in Nokia wireless broadband deal UK broadband provider Pipex has struck a deal with Nokia Siemens to expand the availability of WiMAX services in the UK.

With the growth of wireless internet networks, the firms believe that there is the potential for expansion in the WiMAX sector, a faster version of the wireless service.

As part of the deal, Pipex wireless with use Nokia Siemen's equipment, services and networking expertise to boost the roll out of WiMAX powered broadband wireless services nationwide.

Mike Read, Pipex's chief executive commented: "As we reach the next stage of our business, we are looking to work with strategic partners that share our vision of offering customers a ground-breaking WiMAX broadband experience.

"Nokia Siemens Networks has this vision and has the expertise and track record to help us build our business."

Ari Lehtoranta, head of radio access networks at Nokia Siemens Networks, added: "Pipex wireless brings expertise in internet, broadband and technology innovation and Nokia Siemens Networks' extensive experience in designing, deploying, and maintaining high quality networks globally will be invaluable to its future success."

BT and Virgin Media are currently battling to take over Pipex, which is valued at £407 million.
