Pipex launches new broadband for businesses

Wednesday 4th March 2009, by Daniel King

UK internet service provider Pipex has launched a broadband package designed to cater for the needs of small and medium-sized businesses.

Prices start from £19.50 a month, excluding vat, for the new Pipex Pro Enhanced Upstream connection, which offers download speeds of up to 16Mbps.

However, the main attraction of the service for businesses is likely to be the prospect of faster and more consistent uploading, with speeds around six times quicker than basic ADSL-based broadband packages.

Lance Spencer, product and marketing director for Pipex, said this will help offer businesses the reliability they require from their internet connection to run several real-time applications at once.

He added: "Download speed alone is not necessarily a critical performance factor for businesses."

"Small businesses providing professional services such as new media, design, architecture or technology will be liberated by enhanced and assured upstream."

The service is based on ADSL2+ technology and allows upstream speeds of up to 2.5Mbps, meaning companies will be able to carry out Voice over Internet Protocol and video conferencing more effectively.

It is also available at "a fraction of the cost" of traditional BT SDSL services, making it an attractive proposition for businesses, Mr Spencer said.

This comes after UK provider Exponential-e unveiled two new broadband packages last month aimed specifically at providing cost-competitive solutions for business users.

From £550 a month, firms are able to take advantage of the Power NGN 25 service, which offers uncontended broadband at speeds of 25Mbps.

Those wishing to upgrade to the 50Mbps service can do so at a monthly cost of £650.
