Pipex set to announce sale?

Friday 13th July 2007, by Daniel King

Broadband provider Pipex is said to be close to brokering the £210 million sale of its high speed internet customer base to Tiscali.

The firm is expected to announce that it has sold its one million broadband customer base and its small business clients to Tiscali.

It was previously thought that Pipex would sell the whole of its group for about £400 million; however, buyers are believed to have been put off because of the potential difficulty in integrating the customer base into their own business, the Times reports.

Should the deal go ahead, Tiscali will be adding about 570,000 broadband customers to its current base of 1.4 million high speed internet users.

Back in May, Tiscali's chief financial officer Massimo Cristofori stated that the firm was at a "very preliminary stage" in potentially considering a deal with Pipex.

Interest in Pipex had previously been expressed by broadband providers such as Virgin Media and BT, Msnbc.msn.com reports.
