Internet service provider Pipex has said it will close its UK-based call centres to Bulldog subscribers.
The firm – which bought Bulldog from Cable and Wireless last year – has denied it will offshore the service despite stating last month that it would be scaling back its in-house customer service provision, reports the Register.
Workers at Bulldog's UK outsourcers discovered last week that their roles would end after a 90-day period.
Despite the findings, Pipex said in a statement: "Pipex has no plans to reduce the level of support for customers with a Bulldog service nor has it any plans to change the way that the customer can contact the support teams."
A recent survey by IT solutions firm Epitiro found that Pipex customers were more likely to receive better broadband connection speeds and technical performance than some others, along with BT consumers and clients of broadband provider Demon.
Gavin Johns, managing director of Epitiro, said: "In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five."
