Pipex has warned heavy broadband users that they must cut their internet usage or have their connection axed.
After introducing a 'fair use' policy in 2005 for customers enjoying unlimited access, the company sent out letters recently warning non-compliant customers that they would have their connection suspended from 28 March.
But Pipex has failed to outline to customers the level of usage that constitutes 'fair.'
It is thought that people who participate in large-scale file-sharing activities or who download large files are more likely to have been censured by the company.
The recent letter is the second of two warnings sent to customers. The first asked recipients to both reply and cut their internet usage.
The company has advised customers to switch to Pipex Midi, which carries a 15GB usage allowance, and costs 90p per GigaByte for usage over 15GB.
This week it emerged that Virgin Media is frontrunner among suitors to buy Pipex out.
