BSkyB increases number of broadband consumers

BSkyB increases number of broadband consumers Broadcaster BSkyB has announced that it added 259,000 new broadband clients in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year, exceeding its own targets.

At the end of June, the number of broadband customers had risen to 716,000 in comparison with the 700,000 expected.

The firm is now in the throes of bundling its internet services with phone and TV packages.

London-based analyst at Sanford Bernstein Claudio Aspesi told Bloomberg: "On broadband, they slightly beat their own forecast. It's a good number, but not an astonishing number."

"The bundling strategy is working," he added.

Among the results included in the firm's most recent report is that 1,150 exchanges had now been unbundled, with 70 per cent coverage of households in the UK being achieved six months ahead of plan.

James Murdoch, son of Rupert Murdoch and one of the firm's bosses, said that consumers were being added from across the board of competitors.

The bundling initiative aims to increase the amount of revenue generated per user, Bloomberg states.
