Bundled services 'on the rise'

More consumers are opting for bundled broadband, telephone and television packages from the likes of BT, Virgin Media and Sky, according top a new report detailing the rise of digital take-up.
Conducted by experts at telecommunications and broadcasting watchdog Ofcom, the survey revealed that eight out of ten TVs now receive access to channels that are not delivered using the analogue signal.
This was put down to a growing number of secondary screens - such as those found in bedrooms, kitchens and offices - converting to the new technology needed to receive such content.
Between homes equipped with BT Vision, Virgin Media's V+ Box, Sky+, Freeview, Freesat and other facilities, it was noted the number of sets across the nation now receiving digital broadcasting is around 60 million.
By the end of the third quarter of 2009, 16 per cent of those subscribed to services with BSkyB now had a combined package that included TV, broadband and a home phone line - this was noted as up by 11 per cent on the same period last year.
Virgin Media customers with the same selection of products accounted for 58 per cent of its users - up from the 53 per cent figure recorded during the first three months of 2008.
The figures form part of the Ofcom Digital TV Progress Report designed to help monitor digital take up as the UK prepares to switch off the analogue signal.
This week, Virgin Media announced it would add Living HD to its selection of high definition V+ options.
