Report analyses Sky and Virgin Media

Report analyses Sky and Virgin Media An investment bank has published a report looking at the battle between Sky and Virgin Media for television customers.

Switzerland-based UBS said in the publication that it tips Sky to win the contest after Virgin was forced to pull Sky channels from its television packages, possibly due to its greater strength as a triple-play provider of broadband, television and voice services.

Its survey showed that almost half of Virgin Media customers want to switch providers, with ten per cent looking to terminate their contracts because of the removal of Sky channels.

"Our survey strongly suggests that Sky customers do not see Virgin as a credible alternative," UBS is quoted as saying.

Earlier this month, Sky announced that it has seen its broadband customers double over the last quarter, reaching a total of 553,000 with a network spanning nearly two-thirds of homes in the UK.
