Sky boosts the switching incentive with HD news

Sky has given consumers one more reason to consider switching to its broadband, telephone and television packages with the announcement that it is to expand its high definition (HD) offering.
In addition to the various HD channels currently offered by the broadcaster, it has been revealed that viewers could soon have access to an upgraded version of the service provider's news platform.
Sky News HD will be the first channel of its kind in the UK to beam 24-hour current affairs programming to homes in the sharper, higher quality format and is expected to be available from spring 2010.
The company claims the launch will signify its commitment to providing its subscribers with the latest news in a "groundbreaking" way that will also include HD graphics that are "capable of delivering a 3D look" on screen.
Commenting on the announcement, Sky chief executive Jeremy Darroch said the move to HD news was a natural step and added the move could well be popular with its Sky+HD customers.
He added these people could expect "award-winning breaking news in HD for the very first time [
] further expanding the choice on offer."
Sky News head John Ryley added that the implementation of a HD news channel was something of a "landmark" for both the organisation and the news broadcasting sector.
"It is a vision that clearly defines Sky's strengths, passion and restless pursuit to be first and to be the best," he concluded.
The company currently offers television, broadband and telephone packages from £35.50 per month.
