Sky Broadband 'targets 3m customer mark'

Sky Broadband 'targets 3m customer mark' Multimedia service provider Sky has announced that it is on target to reach the three million customer landmark for its broadband service by 2010.

A little over a year after Sky Broadband was launched by BSkyB, the company has over one million customers after combining broadband with digital TV and home phone services.

The company has benefited by offering cheap broadband deals to new customers, adding to its already large digital TV base, the Business reports. Sky has invested £51 million into the broadband sector over the last 14 months.

Chief executive James Murdoch told the news provider: "Fifty-eight per cent of our broadband customers have switched from others because we're higher speed and cheaper, and we're getting the lion's share of new customers."

Last week, BSkyB's financial results revealed that Sky Broadband added 223,000 customers in the three months to September.
