Sky has announced its financial results for the nine-month period ending March 31st 2009 - noting its broadband, television and voice calling packages were performing well despite the current economic climate.
The media services provider noted overall net customer growth of 80,000 - and increase of 43 per cent on the same period from the previous financial year and added this meant it had now penetrated 9.318 million households in the UK.
It was noted that 1.4 million of its customers - the equivalent to 15 per cent of the total British base, were now subscribed to a combined TV, broadband and telephone package.
Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said the company had made an strong start to 2009 despite the recession and the fact that consumers were looking to obtain the best levels of value and quality in their media packages was also a good sign.
"Over 9.3 million families now choose Sky and they are taking more products from us than ever," he added. "At the same time as enjoying great entertainment, more customers save on their household bills when they switch their broadband and telephony services to Sky."
The company also recorded 243,000 net additions to its Sky+HD service - bringing the number of national subscribers up to the one million mark. Sky+ was also highlighted as having surpassed the five million subscriber milestone with 406,000 net additions during the last quarter.
It was recently announced the group was backing a new mentoring scheme entitled Carbon Copies - which aims to educate other companies on tackling climate change.
