Tuesday 3rd May 2011, by Daniel King
More people are taking advantage of Sky's broadband deals, as the company's online service has seen its number of subscribers increase to 3.2 million.
In the three months preceding March 31st 2011, a total of 155,000 new customers began using its broadband product, marking a year-on-year increase of 53 per cent.
Over one in four homes that use Sky now receive broadband, TV and landline services from the provider.
Jeremy Darroch, chief executive of Sky, said: "The strength of our financial performance has been equally broadly based, with good revenue growth across retail, wholesale and advertising.
"Strong cost control and continued margin expansion has delivered 24 per cent growth in operating profit and free cash flow is up 60 per cent."
Mr Darroch's comments come after Virgin Media announced that it is testing broadband speeds in London that can reach up to 1.5Gb.
If the testing is successful, the company will have the fastest cable connection in the world.
